Project Purpose
The vision will be refined throughout the corridor study process as information is obtained from the public and corridor agencies.
Project Vision:
Over the next 20 years and beyond, Parker Road between Hampden Avenue and E-470 will serve as a highly effective transportation corridor that meets the needs of commuters, businesses, residents and the communities it serves. Parker Road will provide an appropriate balance of improved regional mobility, local accessibility, and enhanced safety, with improvements planned that minimize impacts on neighborhoods and the environment.
Project objectives to achieve this vision include:
- Collaborating with local jurisdictions and the public to find creative solutions that will consider current transportation plans and comprehensive land use
- Providing roadway and intersection improvements that improve safety and reliability of travel along the Parker Road corridor
- Expanding mobility opportunities, including transit, bicycle and pedestrian facilities
- Accommodating and supporting previous transportation and infrastructure improvements
- Enhancing the corridor image and design character
- Avoiding or minimizing community or environmental impacts resulting from the recommended improvements
Steps for conducting the Parker Road Corridor Study to help achieve the vision for the corridor include:
- Identify roadway and intersection improvements to maintain safe and reliable travel along the Parker Road corridor
- Define an appropriate level of future transit services, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure
- Consider Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Travel Demand Management (TDM) and Transportation Systems Management (TSM) Strategies as appropriate to enhance corridor traffic operations
- Reflect Context Sensitive Design in development of improvement options
- Maintain consistency with the CDOT Access Code Classification while providing reasonable access to businesses and residential neighborhoods adjacent to the corridor
- Assess economic viability of the corridor and potential benefits and impacts from transportation improvements
- Determine cost allocation and funding sources for recommended improvements
- Identify phasing opportunities for timely implementation
- Define right of way needs to aid in local planning efforts
- Maintain a high level of communication with the public, corridor agencies and regulatory and planning agencies
- Recognize and address methods to streamline subsequent NEPA documentation and clearance
